Comprehensive College Package (11th-12th grade)

Education Edge Consulting will provide a comprehensive set of services to guide and advise student through entire college admissions process.

  • Review of academic record to date
  • Standardized testing recommendations and calendar
  • In-depth questionnaires/interview on college preferences (student and parents)
  • Assessment of college preferences
  • Refinement of choices using specialized college guidance tools
  • Preparation of a selected list of colleges uniquely fit to the student (including options for “foundation, target and reach” colleges)
  • Determination of Early Action/Early Decision options
  • Guidance on maximizing college visits and college fairs
  • College interview preparation and practice
  • Guidance on teacher and counselor recommendation
  • Preparation of resume to be included with college applications
  • Oversight and guidance of application deadlines and requirements

  • Required College Essay Writing Workshop for all rising seniors

  • Follow up student meeting email to parents
  • Recommend tutors and additional support depending on student’s needs

  • Advice on making a final choice once acceptances are received (College comparison worksheets provided and office meetings can be scheduled.)

Personal Statement and College Essay Writing Package

This package provides extensive essay support including:

  • Required College Essay Writing Workshop for all rising seniors
  • Individual brainstorming sessions to help student select topics
  • Refining topic; providing direction; reviewing all essays
  • Editing to ensure essay meets the application goals but retains student’s voice and perspective
  • Ensuring that the student’s voice and writing style are consistent in all essays
  • Reviewing student writing samples (Student writing samples must be brought to first meeting.)
  • Providing resume template to be used with college applications

Description of College Essay/Personal Statement Writing Workshop (Required)

This three hour interactive workshop is offered in late May and early June of the junior year and is scheduled at the end of students’ school year just as they become rising seniors. Students can choose to attend either workshop, but they must attend one of them. As part of the workshop students view a power point presentation entitled Writing the College Essay. They receive materials about college essays to take home.  A private essay brainstorming session with each student is scheduled for the days immediately following the workshop.

This workshop teaches the student the following:

  • The goal of the college essay
  • How to write a college essay
  • How to distinguish yourself in the college essay
  • What admissions officers look for in the college essay

This package includes:

  • All essays for 8 applications including the common application and its supplements, private colleges not on the common application, Florida state universities and colleges, out-of-state public and private universities and colleges.

Sophomore Check-Up

Services include:

  • Development of Sophomore and Junior Year Action Plans
  • Review of academic record and ongoing review of academic progress
  • Advice on course selection for sophomore and junior years
  • Recommendations on summer activities
  • Focus on maximizing high school opportunities for college preparation
  • Recommendations and development of extracurricular plan
  • Standardized test (SAT, ACT, SAT II) scheduling/planning
  • Initial preparation of student resume (Out-of-the-Classroom Activity Log)

A La Carte Services

Education Edge Consulting is available for hourly consultation services to provide information and advice about college identification and selection and to assist with college applications and essay support and interviews.

Medical School Consulting

Education Edge Consulting provides a comprehensive set of services to guide and advise the student through the medical school application process beginning as early as freshman year in college.

Getting Ready to Apply to Medical School

  • Discuss possible major and pre-med requirements
  • Discuss timeline for application/admission to medical school.
  • Review of and suggestions for courses taken each college year.
  • Evaluate yearly personalized transcript and college experience.
  • Discuss research project, physician shadowing and/or clinical experience, appropriate ongoing community service, summer activities and plans as related to medical school timeline. These are ongoing throughout the student s college years. Suggestions from consultant in areas where needed.
  • The MCAT - Coaching suggestions including when to take the test, prep suggestions, college course load when prepping.
  • Provide suggested readings and essential websites.

Applying to Medical School

  • Medical School Application List Assist applicant in creating a list tailored to the applicant s strengths, location and competitiveness.
  • Provide medical school assessment form for applicant.
  • Essays Teach the applicant how to write the personal statement and all secondary essays that will show the unique strengths of the applicant. Editing of all essays included.
  • Organizational tools Provide tools that promote timely submission of an excellent, complete application.
  • Interview preparation - Provide interview coaching including: how to answer interview questions, discuss likely questions, conduct mock interview and discuss applicant s presentation.
